After a rubbish jet lagged nights sleep we woke to a cloudy and cold day in Chicago. Our hotel had a complimentary breakfast which was very American on paper plates and plastic knives and forks.
The highlight was the make your own waffles! Batter in a vat, measured in paper cups and cooked on a waffle iron with its own timer.
We decided to walk down towards Lake Michigan and through the rather fine Millennium Park

and Maggie Daley Park with its super kids areas - we wish we were 5 again!
The water front was a bit bleak in the cold wind and we did not stay too long!

We had to cross the multi lane Highway 41 - Lakeside Drive! |

Back to the hotel for a coffee before a trip on the raised Metro around what is called the loop, with great views of downtown Chicago.

Whilst the metro is above ground there are underground tunnel for walkers called the pedway.
We walked to the Chicago Cultural Center: we found the building much more interesting than the exhibition!
