October break to Cornwall, day one, off to Tewkesbury

We decided to have a week away with the main aim to do Cornwall. We have been wanting to take brother Nic's invitation to join him and Sue for a ride on the Severn Valley Railway so we decided to stay in Tewkesbury for a couple of nights on the way to Cornwall.

So off on the 9am Fishbourne ferry in cool and windy bright sunshine.

Roads were surprisingly busy, especially with HGVs and we were often caught behind them on the two lane dual A34. Despite this we were in Cheltenham within 2 hours and had good views over the town as we came down Leckhampton Hill

Decide that we feel hungry as we pass our favourite restaurant so we pop in for lunch!

Time to look at the shops before we need to recharge in a cafe! IG very disappointed that she cannot find anything to buy,

We liked Cheltenham which we visited  afew times when Emma and Andy lived there. Did not realise that it is a very nice place with most of the main shops and department stores and wide streets. By now the sunshine had turned to drizzle but it was not too heavy.

So off to check in at our Premier Inn in Tewkesbury.

After a tea in the room time to explore Tewkesbury with its splendid Abbey.

There are some lovely old buildings in the town.

And this amazing disused mill by the river

So back to the Premier Inn for a snack before crashing out!

    1. Yes Emma, we should have remembered it better. Maybe we never spent long enough there. IG cannot remember the shops at all!

  2. p.s. have driven through Tewkesbury on many occasions to avoid traffic! And did a half marathon there. So recognise those places too.
