Eight of the 385 steps seemed to have gone missing but we made it to the top and had a view back to Vernazza.
We could of course have caught a bus up but we are fit and healthy!
The village on the hill is very small and we were early enough for it to be empty!
We got views inland to Sant Bernardino: it was a bit misty!
And at the end of the village misty views up and down the coast.
So back down the steps to the station and by train to Monterosso. This is the Terre which is the most like a traditional beach resort, but it still has an old town.
At the north end of the prom is this (concrete) sculpture
There is another bay to the south
Behind this bay the railway makes one of its very brief outings from tunnels
and the town is the other side of the railway
The end of the town is a modern mess! |
So back to the station using the tunnel which cuts off going around the headland separating the two beaches
We were feeling peckish and we remembered a nice fish and chip shop in Riomaggiore
We decide to go back to our Hotel for a cup of tea and siesta but have time to explore bits of Riomaggiore we missed on our first visit
These coastal views were from this rather precarious vantage point!
and back to the station for a train back to La Spezia
So a nice dinner and time to pack for our early start home tomorrow. We leave for Pisa Airport just before 7am!
