Off to New York
We were allowed to check in for our
flight 24 hours before take off, so IG tried to reserve our seats at
around 5pm on Monday. We were a little confused by the seating layout
which was 2 4 2 across not the 3 4 3 we were expecting. Then we got a
phone call from Hamish, our Travel Consultant saying we had been
upgraded to Business Class and it all became clear. We were very
excited as this would be a totally new experience!
Due to a Southern strike we went via
Guildford and had an on time train journey up to Gatwick. We had, as
usual left plenty of contingency time in our schedule and arrived at
Gatwick 3 and a half hours early!
Checked in at the First Class desk,
through security in the Premier Lane and into the BA lounge. Free
food, drinks and Wi-Fi and comfy sofas. The 3 hours flew by!
Then onto the plane and wow so much
room. The very comfy seat turns into a flat bed. Even got a couple of
hours sleep on a day flight: never before. Food was pretty good on
real plates with real knife and fork, Champagne out of a real glass!
A little odd at first as you face your companion! |

Good flight, took off on time and only
7 hours which was 30 minutes better than scheduled. 30 minutes to do immigration (Club Class benefit being early off plane). Priority luggage on carousel and then 30 minute wait for booked transport(tation). In hotel at 9 30pm local time after a MAD drive in a minibus through the busy but not congested streets. Hotel seem fine, not too noisy but a few horns and emergency sirens to wake us up.
