Zermatt to Interlaken

We decided to walk to the Gorner Gorge which we had seen from the cable car yesterday and it looked worth a visit. The weather was not as good as yesterday, but not too bad, but it was pretty cold at 6C!

It was a pleasant walk up by the side of the river Vispa with the cable car running above.

The Gorge itself is very deep and there are wooden walkways cantilevered off the sides.

We had a good walk though the Gorge and back enjoying the views,

Then back through to town to buy our baguettes and cakes at our favourite bakery, and catch the train to Visp. The weather was much better and we had great views of the Vispa Valley though which the train runs. The old trains had opening windows for perfect reflection free photography but we were on a new rain with huge windows but less camera friendly.

River Vispa

At Visp we get an Intercity Express through the new base Lotschberg tunnel  to Spiez.

Visp Station and our train to Spiez

At Spiez we get a local train to Interlaken with great views of the Thunersee Lake.

Opening windows on this BLS service so no unwanted reflections. After checking in to our hotel

and a cup of tea in our functional room with a proper en suite (it has a frosted glass door: what is it with these Swiss!) we go off and explore Interlaken in warm sunshine. Great views of the Jungfrau from the town,

Pop into the tourist centre to get timetables for all the places we want to see before dinner at a so so restaurant.

  2. Oh and its not just the Swiss. In the Netherlands I visited a university that had unisex toilets where each cubicle had a frosted (sort of opaque) glass door. Most disconcerting when going on a toilet break at the same time as colleagues... but I guess the Europeans are less stuffy than the Brits!!

  3. OK Emma, IG did not check it: late and tired. All hopefully put right now!
